Morrison Polkinghorne
Artist
Sydney, Australia
Australian artist Morrison Polkinghorne spent nearly a decade in Cambodia. His gray and black artworks are made with lotus stems while his artisanal ink is painstakingly distilled from the petals collected during Khmer religious celebrations. A tassel maker and weaver by trade, Morrison began his artistic career designing intricate 18th and 19th century reproduction decorative arts. Now comes his unique concept of Pointillism, using lotus as both theme and application. This is the perfect imagery for Southeast Asia, as the flower symbolizes Buddha’s spiritual awakening, emerging from the muddy dark depths into light and becoming a flash of beauty.
Following her formal career as an architect, Ruth Christensen, a self-taught artist, now paints from her winter studio in Dorset and her summer floating studio in the Mediterranean. Favoring acrylics and mixed media, she tailors her practice to attune with her environment—according to her available space and materials. An avid sailor and enthusiastic traveller, Ruth draws her inspiration from the places she visits and her experiences along the way, aiming to capture moments on canvas. And wherever she is it’s always about the color and the light. Most recently her most exhilarating creative moments have been experienced through collaboration with other artists of the Collective.
